The guiding ‘North Star’ of our strategy is to deliver net zero across our supply chain by 2050, with net carbon neutral target for own operations being 2035. All roles and functions within the Booker business have a role to play in delivering the planet plan.

Our commitment to operating in a responsible and sustainable way reflect our values; and they are the responsibility of everyone at Booker. The food sector both contributes to climate change and is vulnerable to its effects.

- - We aim to be carbon neutral by 2035 in our own operations and net zero by 2050
Climate
We have set strong targets to tackle climate change, we will be carbon neutral in our own operations by 2035 and net zero across our entire footprint by 2050. In FY22/23 we reduced emissions in our operations by 26% versus the baseline year of 2015/16.
We have done this by moving to 100% renewable electricity, converting all our branch and distribution sites to energy efficient LED lighting and striving to improve delivery efficiencies. We are moving to natural refrigerant in our refrigeration and are committed to zero emission vans by 2030

Booker are working to ensure our own brand products are responsibly sourced, our areas of focus are:
- - Deforestation free forest products – palm oil, soy, paper & timber products
- - Sustainably sourced fish
- - Sustainably sourced agriculture products
- - Cage free eggs and egg ingredients
- - UK meat and dairy sourced from Red Tractor accredited farms
- - Sustainable packaging – Deforestation free, recyclable, reduced to a minimum, non recyclable materials removed
Food Waste
Across all Booker sites for the financial year 2022/23 we donated over 5 million meals. During 2022 the Booker food redistributed supported 579 Fareshare charities and communities and fed 15,708 families via Olio Food Waste Heroes.
To recognise the work in this area Fareshare awarded Booker with their partner Logo for 2022
We have also committed to halve all food waste arising in our own operations by 2030.
In the financial Year 2022/23 we reduced food waste across the Booker Group by 34% against the baseline year of 2015/16.
Supporting our Business Customers Booker helped over 600 independent retail customers prevent and redistribute food waste by introducing them to our partners Too Good To Go.
Working with Too Good To Go and the Magic Bag programme, Premier, Londis and Budgens customers have saved almost 150 tonnes of food whilst supporting local communities with reduced price good food.
