About the role

Venus Wine & Spirits is a leading specialist drink wholesaler to the on-trade.  Following our recent acquisition by Booker Group, and as we celebrate our 50th anniversary we are looking to the future with an incredibly exciting growth plan that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the UK hospitality trade.   

 

In this coming year we are opening new depots to bring us closer to more customers and increase our delivery capabilities, building on our reputation for unrivalled service and a market leading range of over three thousand products.  We are also looking to bring outstanding talent into the Venus business to ensure we continue to improve our customer proposition.

 

Specifically for this Account Manager position we are recruiting for, we are looking for a highly motivated and well-connect hunter to drive business with bars, pubs, restaurants, hotels across the Midlands. As a valuable addition to our team, you will lead sales growth in this new role for Venus which will expand our customer base from our new depot in Kingswinford.

Main Responsibilities

  • Identify key target accounts and build strong relationships with them that lead to sales. 
  • Build and manage an effective business pipeline through a combination of new customer acquisition and effective account management.
  • Develop impactful sales pitches, lead negotiations, and secure contracts with customers.
  • Manage commercial delivery for your accounts to achieve revenue, margin, and distribution objectives.
  • Be the key point of contact for your accounts to ensure Venus deliver an exceptional service. This includes working proactively with both customers and your colleagues to complete a smooth, positive onboarding process including set up of pricing, delivery terms and product forecasting.
  • Effectively communicate with customers to quickly address and resolve any issues to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Proactively network with brand owner field sales teams to gain market intelligence, build trade awareness, and meet with key on-trade influencers and decision-makers. 
  • Work proactively with internal teams such as credit control, transport, buying and sales operations to help maintain industry-leading level of customer service.
  • Monitor market trends, industry developments, and competitive landscape to stay informed about changes that may impact the on-trade sector. Prepare regular reports on sales performance, market insights, and customer feedback.

 

You will need

  • A successful track record of sales for an on-trade drinks wholesaler with particular emphasis on new business development.
  • A deep knowledge of the Midlands bar scene with a strong network of contacts in the key cities across the region, covering on-trade operators and brand suppliers.
  • Excellent commercial acumen and strong negotiation, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Understanding of the on-trade market, including trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Tenacity and drive to steadily hunt new business and protect existing revenue and margin.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and positively influence customers and key internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in using CRM software and other relevant sales tools.
  • Willingness to travel as required to meet with customers and attend industry events.
